Vintage RC Car Interclub Series Round 1

Welcome to the inaugural Vintage Radio Controlled Cars Interclub series!

Vintage RC Car racing is one of the fast growing classes in NZ and a lot of us have had a hankering for the old days when people were interested as much in the cars we raced than the racing itself. And it is with this spirit that we have revived the idea of an inter club series where we oldies and young at heart can travel around the country like we used to back in the 80’s and 90’s.

The first round will be held at the Counties RC Car track. This is one of the original tracks from back in the early 80’s. This will be a 1 day affair on Saturday the 15th of May 2021. For those traveling we have timed this meeting to coincide with a 1/10th CountiesRC club race meeting the following day where you can race your modern as well as your vintage cars. Don’t forget we have a campsite right beside the track.

Outside of the VIC we will be running a class for Pre 96 Trucks (so long as we get more than 5 entries) – rules will be the same as the Pre 96 classes.

Also a pre 96 All comers class for electric 1/10th cars (once again numbers permitting).

Rules

Most important rule to remember is that the spirit of these events is to enjoy Vintage RC cars. We all know how the cars where designed in the day.

89 and 96 represents the first year the models were released. So if the model was first released in or before 1989/1996 then in would be eligible. Pre 89 cars can race in Pre 96 classes.

Re-released models of those Pre 89 or Pre 96 models are also eligible.

Motors – These will be 540 silver can motors. Since not all these are made equal we are asking people to play fare. As a guideline the following are some that are in and some that are out.

Tires are open for Pre 89 and Pre 96 cars.

Tires for the the Kyosho Scorpion/Beetle/Tomahawk Cup cars must use the 1.9 tires that Kyosho produce for this class. You can use any compound that is available from Kyosho.

Batteries – NiCad and NiMh (max 6 cells) or 2 cell Lipo (max 8.4v)

Qualifying

We will have two rounds of qualifying at 5 minutes duration plus last lap.

A staggered called start system will be used for qualifying heats and your best rounds based on points will count to your qualifying position. To resolve ties the best race time will be used.

Finals

We will have 1 Round of finals. Winner takes all.
